Reader’s Letter from Anders Skjelbred

I finished my master degree in mechatronics in 2014 at the University of Agder (UiA). In July I started working at Macgregor as a Test & Commissioning software engineer. The master degree in Mechatronics from UIA gave me a strong competence in important topics like PLC programming, Hydraulics, Industrial IT and Control Theory. A good knowledge in these topics helped me to learn faster and be more efficient when I started working at Macgregor Kristiansand.

My main tasks as a T&C software engineer is to test and verify offshore cranes through software tuning of hydraulic components and connect/test electrical equipment. It is a practical job where you follow and test offshore cranes from the startup to a final tested crane delivered to the customer.

I have worked at Macgregor for almost a year now, and I feel that working as a T&C engineer has given me a stronger competence and a better understanding of PLC programming, Control Theory and practical system understanding of hydraulics.

My experience of Macgregor is that it is a company with ambitions of becoming world leading in offshore cranes, cargo flow and offshore load handling. Macgregor has given me the opportunity to learn and develop as a newly graduated civil engineer, and I am very satisfied with choosing Macgregor as my first job as an engineer.
